Minneapolis Attractions
Think Minneapolis, and its most famous son rockstar Prince comes to mind. Mark Twain had hailed Minneapolis and St Paul as twin cities along the Mississippi. These two are part of America’s industrial belt and if you are keen on sports and the outdoors, there’s no better place to visit. Weather-wise, Minneapolis has bitingly chilly winters while summers can be hot and sweaty. The rainy season is between May and September.
The Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport is home to the Northwest Airlines and takes an annual load of 22 million footfalls. Buses, taxis, car rentals, limousines and shuttles enable convenient travel within the city. Efficient networks by the Greyhound connect the cities to the airport, Milwaukee and Chicago. The Amtrak goes as far as Seattle too.
Tourist spots here range from the Fort Snelling State Park, Mall of America and the Minnesota Zoo with 2700 animals to St Paul Curling Club, and Walker Art Center.
The festivals here start with the St Paul Winter Carnival, dating back to 1886 celebrating winter’s gift, snow. The Festival of Nations, going back 60 years is a big draw in April. The Heart of the Beast Mayday Parade involves colorful puppets. In June comes the Grand Old Day followed by the Aquatennial in July celebrating water.
The Minnesota State Fair in August has fun, food and rides galore for the young and the young at heart. Winter heralds the Holidazzle involving colorful floats and marching bands and continuing from Thanksgiving up to New Year’s Eve.
