A fine melting pot of all that is Tex and Mex, San Antonio is the famed gateway to the southern parts of Texas. One of the most written about downtown areas and the laid back ambience are its prime attractions. America’s ninth-largest city and a highly popular tourist destination is blessed with a semi tropical climate. Summers can range from agreeable to bad and humidity continues till September. Autumn and spring are the best times to visit.
San Antonio International Airport (SAT) receives flights from the US and Mexico. City buses, taxis, limousines and shuttle buses are regular means of conveyance. Amtrak trains ply between San Antonio and cities like Los Angeles, Tucson, Palm Springs, El Paso and New Orleans. Buses also connect SA to Austin, Dallas, Galveston, Houston and New Orleans.
Among sightseeing spots are the Alamo, Buckhorn Saloon and Museum, San Antonio Museum Of Art, Witte Museum and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
The annual calendar is packed with events like the San Antonio Mud Festival in January; the San Antonio Livestock Show & Rodeo followed by the Carnaval del Rio.
In March close to St Patrick’s Day, the city waterway goes green and the citizens drink beer by the barrels to celebrate their feat. April and May witness the Fiesta San Antonio, Cinco de Mayo, the Tejano Conjunto Festival. The Mexican Independence Day in September and traditional Mexican festivals like the feast of the Virgin de Guadalupe and Las Luminarias and Las Posadas are equally attractive.
