Festivals enliven the city with the Chinese New Year being the biggest in January followed by the chaotic Mardi Gras in February. The gay pride event, Freedom Day Celebration, in June is followed by the Northwest Folklife Festival in May witnessing music, dance, and endless food from over 100 countries. The Seafair and the Bumbershoot in summer feature theatrical and musical events while the Western Washington Fair displays livestock.

Places to visit include the indoor Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park, the Pike Place Market with its fishy-smelling, tourist-thronged ambience, the Seattle Art Museum and the futuristic Seattle Center. The Space Needle which is a 183 m tall rocket-styled observation station and restaurant is a must see.
